Lachen - Yumthang

Day 01 : Arrive Bagdogra/New Jalpaiguri-Gangtok (145 kms / 5 hrs drive)

Upon arrival & Pick - up from Bagdogra Airport / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station to Hotel. enroute visit Tashi View Point, The historic Kabi Lungtsok, Phodong Monasrty Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 02 : Gangtok-Lachen (135 kms / 6 hrs drive)

Breakfast at the hotel. Am city tour of Gangtok, Later drive to Lachen. On arrival checkin at Hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Lachen - is known for its scenic beauty and chuktuk, the blankets made from sheep wool. Since a sizeable population in the area is comprised of herders, chuktuk is the natural handicraft item that the people of the area engaged in. Most of the village folks being herders used to lead a nomadic life a few years back. They used to stay in Lachen during the winter season and move up to Thangu during the summer months. But now since most people have a settled life, only the herders move up. One of the most unique characteristics of Lachen is Dzumsa, which is a form of local governance. It means the meeting place. This system of self governance was introduced in the beginning of the 19th century and even after the panchayat system was introduced all over Sikkim it was not imposed in Lachen and Lachung, thus the Dzumsa system continues to function till this day.

Day 03 : Lachen

Breakfast at the hotel and procced for full exploring Lachen, Every season is different in Lachen, if spring witnesses the flowering of rhododendrons, monsoon welcomes the mists on the mountains. During winter Lachen is covered in snow and offers a pretty sight. There are quite a few places around, which one can visit when in Lachen.
A number of hot springs, lakes and trek routes dot the vicinity of Lachen. Travellers can explore Lachung, which is just 6 km from Lachen. The Lachung Monastery on the slope opposite the highway is another interesting place to visit. The monastery is the centre of all religious functions of the locals.

Yamthung Valley, 30 km away is a scenic delight to visit. Yumthang is at an altitude of 12,000 ft and is about 135 km from Gangtok. The route to Yumthang from Lachung is a picturesque one, where the landscape is beautiful. You may see the route lined with rhododendrons and orchids which bloom in different colours from April to May.
